are tall footballers better players

does the height of a footballer have any bearing on the way that they play. looking at jones from sunderland who was winning so many headers it seems that there is certainly an advantage to rising highest in the air. one assist and one goal was what he had to show for his efforts. pretty good.

I would say it really depends on the position also.

If you look at a lot of wingers, pacy little players not many of them are tall.

If you look at centre halves they are sometimes tall, like you said to win the headers.

I am 6'5 and play either centre half or centre forward. It is mainly to win headers and to scare people Smile

yes thats what i meant though i did notice that even in one to one battles between two players, the one with the better physique can dispossess the other though it need not happen everytime. wingers are not tall guys mostly - youre right there

RE: are tall footballers better players

Definitely depends on the positions. Keepers are generally quite tall too. Centre halves and center forwards are traditionally taller as they are the ones expected to get their nut on the end of crosses or long balls. As the long ball game fades in to obscurity and also the role of the traditional winger the need isn't so great for taller players. Most teams have a few players over 6'1. Whether these players are better, I wouldn't like to say. They are better at some things like winning the ball in the air.
