Grimsby Going Skint

Town chairman John Fenty says they need more than 200K over the next two months to remain buoyant and called for fresh investors to help spread the financial burden as Grimsby look to leave Blundell Park and move to a new ground in the near future.

Let's hope someone kicks in.

RE: Grimsby Going Skint

As a Grimsby fan this news shocked all the supporters as no one knew we were in this much debt. We already have a debt from a few years ago to pay off so this is worrying news. However John Fenty is Grimsby through and through so I have no doubt that he will get us out of this mess. What is worrying is that we only get 3500 gates on average every game at home and need that to rise to stay in the black. We are having a great run in the JPT trophy were we beat Rotherham away on Tuesday and the 200 or so that turned out made it a great atmosphere. We definatly have the team that can win matches, we don't have a striker to finish off all the chances we create and then go on to have defensive lapses that lose us the game. Like I said I have every confidence in the team, the manager and John Fenty that we will turn this around.

I always remember Grimsby town, They are one of those clubs who are skint one minute and minted the next.

Yea, don't know the situation with us at the minute, the chairman has gone quiet on the finance situation. On the pitch were picking up a bit and were supposedly getting a new stadium (finally)
We should have a bit of cash soon if Hibernian sell one of our former defenders Rob Jones, who many think we have a 10% sell on clause for him, which would be good if the rumours of him going for £1 million are true!

How far does 100K go for a team like Grimsby?

RE: Grimsby Going Skint

@ Chivers - Where in debt, last I heard around £300k-£400k in debt, so £100k would benefit us greatly in paying some of that off, or we could use it to boost the squad, which would be unlikely to happen should we get any significent amount of cash from a player.

@ Chris - Were now 14th in the league, still possible for a play off spot but not many fans are getting there hopes up. Also we have a Johnstones Paint semi final against Morecombe to look forward to, if we win both legs versus them we go to Wembley Big Grin

We have a 17 year old called Ryan Bennett, attracting lots of scouts every game and was called up to the England u-18 squad a few months back. He's probably the best player we have in our team at the minute, and looks the part. I fully expect him to leave in the summer.

Also got a few young players who are attracting interest, one called Matty Bird, 16-17 years old, was on trial with Man Utd this week but got injured half way through the week and a player called Josh Burge (16-17 yrs old) was on trial at Aston Villa last season.

RE: Grimsby Going Skint

Just goes to prove how Clubs can deterioate...there was a time..admittedly a long time ago...when Grimsby played in the old 1st Division , along side Blackpool, Brentford, Hudderfield, Preston and Stoke Big Grin
